The Sisters

Claire & Theresa

Theresa

About Me: "Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can" is a favorite quote of mine because I find my purpose in helping others. My desire to enable and empower others manifests itself in my passion for youth development and international fair trade. This fall, I will begin my final year of graduate school to obtain my Master’s of Public Administration concentrating in Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship from Indiana University. When I’m not studying, working, or volunteering, you can often find me lounging in my hammock, attempting to take artsy photographs, enjoying nature, and searching out free events in Bloomington.

My Inspiration for this Roadtrip: While traveling abroad, I was struck with the realization that there was much of my own country I had never seen and, as I approach graduation and begin to search for a job, that I have never visited many of the cities in which I hope to live! I’m hoping this trip allows me the opportunity to experience first-hand life in various cities and the culture of nonprofit communities across the country.

What I’m Most Looking Forward to: Driving down the coast of California: windows down, iPod blasting, aviators on, and enjoying life.

Interesting Fact about Me: I’m teaching myself how to play the harmonica, although my current repertoire is limited to “Some Nights” by Fun and the always-classic “Amazing Grace”.

Claire
About Me: Theatre, food, music, friends, family - these are the things I love and live for. I am passionate about the arts and the role they play in education, culture, and an individual's life. Theatre is a tool for change, action, and education and with an ever-changing culture, economy, government, I strongly believe that the arts play an essential role in establishing communities and promoting progress. In the fall of 2013 I will start my senior year at The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, where I will continue working towards a BFA in Theatre Management with a minor in Public Policy with a concentration on Urban Studies. Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, seeing live music/theatre, exploring the corners of Chicago, riding my bike, and being as crafty as possible.

My Inspiration for this Roadtrip: Much like my sister, I have the urge and need to see the world, however, unlike my sister, I have not had many opportunities to travel outside of the Chicago-land area. While Chicago is a wonderful city, it is all I have ever known. With only a year left in my education, it is time to start considering life post-graduation, which includes expanding my horizons outside of the 773 area code.

What I’m Most Looking Forward To: THE FOOD! Nothing is more telling of a community’s culture than the food. I cannot wait to seek out the small/family-run/local diners, cafes, and food trucks across the country.

Interesting Quirk about Me:
1.      I often slip into weird accents and have a difficult time returning to my normal voice.
2.      I make a mean oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.
